The ICT Problem
The carbon footprint of information and communications technology (ICT) is growing at a rapid pace.
In our throwaway society, both individuals and businesses regularly turf out functioning ICT hardware in favour of new products.
These products end up in landfills, creating a mountain of e-waste.
All the while, ICT manufacturers continue to churn out their latest offerings, further adding to the carbon footprint.
Developing new 'green' technologies is expensive and won't provide all of the answers.
Something needs to change...
The Campaign
The Government has to lead the way and persuade ICT users to keep using their existing products for as long as possible.
People need an incentive to change their habits... so how about a tax break?
Scrapping VAT on all ICT repairs will make it cheaper to repair products.
More repair means fewer ICT products in landfills.
It also means less demand for new products, which will help stop ICT's carbon footprint from growing further.
Sustainable practices such as ICT repair are key to developing a green economy...
